This year, more destinations in the central part of Hainan are stepping up efforts to court visitors, pushing nature, culture and well-being to counter Sanya’s popular coastal appeal.

In the first six months of this year, Wuzhishan, Baoting, Qiongzhong and Tunchang, which are the mountainous regions in the central part of the island, received 2.8 million tourist arrivals, with the tourism revenue generated from it reaching 480 million yuan.

These areas boast a vast area of rainforest and mountains, which make a good option for leisure and well-thought out activities.

Baoting County, for instance, is boosting promotions for its scenic mountain settings and health-enhancing hot springs.

Pre- and post-meeting activities can take place in Tunchang, which boasts organic farm stays; while Wuzhishan lures visitors with its cultural festivals celebrated by the Li and Miao ethnic groups.

Meanwhile, the nature spots, hot springs and food in the central destinations can attract more tourists as part of their travel itinerary in Hainan.
