School desk donation for impoverished children launched in Hainan Dongfang

Hainan Women’s Federation donates 200 sets of desks to local impoverished children.[Hainan Women’s Federation/He Hua]

A donation ceremony was held in an elementary school in Dongfang City in south China’s Hainan Province recently.

During the ceremony, Hainan Women’s Federation donated 200 desks to local impoverished children. Vice-President of Hainan Women’s Federation Li Youwu and President of Dongfang Women’s Federation Huang Xianwei attended the ceremony.

In January 2013, Hainan Women’s Federation discovered through research that 95.13 percent of children from impoverished families do not own a desk, according to a survey.

In order to improve the well-being of poverty-stricken children, Hainan Women’s Federation launched a campaign to donate desks to them on March 11. On May 23, the federation held a charity event to raise money for the campaign.

So far, the campaign has been implemented in six cities and counties in Hainan, and has donated desks to 2,000 children.
