Hainan saw its foreign trade value for the first five months of this year reach 37 billion yuan, according to statistics released by Haikou Customs.

From January to May, the province saw its export value grow to 9.06 billion yuan, while its import value amounted to 28.32 billion yuan.

The import value of organic chemicals and duty-free products rose 126% and 57.7% year-on-year to 1.98 billion yuan and 285 million yuan in the first five months, respectively.

ASEAN has replaced Hong Kong as Hainan’s largest export market and the western region of Hainan played a major role in boosting foreign trade with its import and export value accounting for 80% of the province’s total
