Hainan Airlines flight from Taiyuan experienced long delays due to a bird strike which also caused the nose of the plane to incur a massive indent.

Passengers aboard the flight from Taiyuan to Xiamen did not expect the delay after the aircraft was halted after hitting a bird.

The flight went as planned and encountered the delay upon reaching Hefei Xinqiao International Airport, its transit airport in the Anhui province. This was according to a passenger, surnamed Zhu, who added that he suddenly felt a jolt and turbulence. He also said that he and other passengers thought the worst regarding the aircraft’s landing.

TweetZhu said that they were requested to take all their belongings with them upon successful landing. This was a strange request from the airline staff knowing that they were only in transit stop and usually just wait inside the traveler’s lounge.

Passengers were able to see the real reason behind the request after disembarking the plane. According to Zhu, the nose of the plane was covered with blood. The nose of the plane also incurred a massive indent following the bird strike.

After long hours of waiting inside the lounge, passengers were told that the flight was cancelled. Zhu said that the airline company made arrangements for another flight. However, the airline did not give any compensation to passengers who were troubled because of the ten-hour delay, Zhu added.

Bird strikes like this often cost airline companies millions of dollars’ worth of damages. It has also been a cause in various plane crashes.

Earlier in May, a report cited the PLA Beijing Military Area Command, Air Force division to be training monkeys to remove birds’ nest within and around the airport premises. This was to ensure the safety of airplanes when they take off and land so as to avoid any accidental bird strikes.
