The Hainan Western Ring High-speed Railway is under construction and is expected to begin operations at the end of 2015, according to a press conference held by the local government.

The rail line runs 345 km along the western half of the island's coastline, from Haikou Railway Station in the north to Sanya Railway Station, and is built in three years at a planned cost of 26.8 billion yuan.

This line is intended to facilitate easier travel between tourist destinations including Chengmai, Lingao, Danzhou, Changjiang, Dongdang, Ledong, Yacheng and Sanya. The rail line will have 17 stations and bullet trains running on the line which are designed for a top speed of 200 km/h.

Upon its completion, the Hainan Western Ring High-speed Railway will complete a round-the-island high speed line linking most of the coastal towns and cities.
