Hainan's trade volume with its ASEAN member states hit 4.7 billion yuan in the first quarter of 2014, up 58.9% over the same period of last year, ranking 4th among China’s main provincial regions.

The export volume to ASEAN amounted to 1.56 billion yuan, and it imported goods at a total of 1.86 billion yuan from ASEAN.

The province's foreign-invested enterprises generated 3.51 billion yuan in foreign trade value in the first three months, accounting for 74% of the province's total, while its private enterprises realized 1.2 billion yuan in foreign trade value, up 26.6% year on year.

Hainan's major trading partners in ASEAN include Vietnam, Singapore and the Philippines.

Hainan mainly exported agricultural items to those ASEAN countries and mainly imported refined oil from those countries.
