Free Wi-Fi service is available in coffee houses (internet photo)
Free Wi-Fi has become available in downtown Hangzhou, the capital of Zhejiang province. It is the first time that free Wi-Fi has been offered across an entire city in China.
Earlier in 2008, Haikou pushed forward the idea of the “Wireless Haikou” project, and it was approved by experts the same year.
As related implementation plans are under discussion, free Wi-Fi services may be available across Haikou soon.
According to the scheme, “Wireless Haikou” will adopt a 1.8GHz BWA system to set up broadband wireless metropolitan area networks in Haikou.
Free Wi-Fi services have been regarded as one of the key marketing projects in Haikou. In some coffee houses and restaurants, business owners now offer free Wi-Fi services for customers.
