According to Haikou Customs, Hainan sold 13,000 tons of aquatic products abroad in January, an increase of 11.8% year on year. The total value stood at $54.36 million, a growth of 11%.

Hainan ranked 6th in aquatic exports nationwide and aquatic products accounted for 14.8% of the province's total exports.

Among the aquatic products, tilapia gained most in popularity among foreign customers. Exports of tilapia increased 21.9% year-on-year to 11,000 tons, accounting for 22.7% of country’s total number.

The European Union, Middle East and the United States were the top three export markets, with the export amounts being 4,611, 1,746 and 1,540 tons, respectively.

To guarantee the timely shipment of perishable products, Haikou Customs has opened up the "green channel" to facilitate the quick export of aquatic products.
