Hainan to spend RMB 40 million to restore coral reefs and mangrove forests
Hainan is planning to spend 40 million yuan on the restoration and protection work of coral reefs and mangrove forest in the period of 2013-2022.
During the period, the government will take measures to maintain the biodiversity of coral reefs off southeast coast by establishing coral reef restoration bases in demonstration sites including Sanya, Wenchang, Qionghai and Lingshui.
Besides, the government will continue to monitor the coral reef resources in sea areas of Wuzhizhou Island, Changpi Port, Long Bay and Xisha Islands and implant artificial fishing reefs to protect the ocean's ecosystem
The government will map out effective mangrove conservation policies to help prevent negative consequences from human activities.
Many mangrove protection signs will be set up in major mangrove reserve areas to increase the public’s awareness and concern for these precious resources on the Hainan Island.
The government will close some beaches for tree planting, in addition to the artificial afforestation so as to rebuild a green barrier along the coastal line.
