The former general manager of Hainan Expressway Co. Ltd, a listed company in China's southernmost island province, was jailed for 15 years on Monday for taking bribes.

Chen Bo, was convicted of receiving 7.02 million yuan (1.15 million U.S. dollars) in cash and shopping cards when he served as general manager of the company between 2005 and 2010, according to a Hainan No.1 Intermediate People's Court ruling.

Chen took advantage of his post and sought benefits for others, according to the court.

Half a million yuan of Chen's personal wealth has also been confiscated.

Chen did not appeal in court.

Chen was the chairman of the provincial state-owned enterprises supervisory board before he was arrested in February 2013.
