Hainan will increase the contribution of its cultural industry sector to the island’s economy and 93 cultural projects will be focused on this year.

Among the cultural projects are the South China Sea Museum, the South China Sea Protection Center for National Underwater Cultural Heritage, and the Hainan Arts Museum.

Priority will be given to boosting culture-related tourism this year. More western destinations such as Chengmai, Danzhou, Changjiang, Dongfang and Ledong will step up their efforts to court tourists with their unique cultural charm to counter Sanya’s popular coastal appeals.

A special fund will be used in the protection and enhancement of the Li and Miao ethnic cultures, historic culture, folk culture, and marine culture, as well as the development of cultural and sports tourism products. Cultural industries under the program scope include the Nanshan Tourism Zone, Yanoda, Binglanggu Valley, Sanya Romance Park and Yalong Bay Tropical Paradise Forest Park
