The Hainan Women and Gender Research and Training Base was established at the Qiongzhou University in south China's Hainan Province on December 17, 2013.

An opening ceremony was held by the Hainan Women’s Federation and Institute of Hainan Women and Children Issues Research Centre, followed by a seminar to discuss further cooperation and research orientations.

This research and training base is one of the first bases in Hainan Province aiming to promote research into issues such as women’s marital status, ethnic minority women, and women in science and technology.

Vice President of Hainan Women’s Federation Yang Cuixia attended the event and gave a speech during which she affirmed the contributions that the Qiongzhou University has made to gender studies and said that there would be several new subjects such as women’s literature, gender studies and women’s studies added to the university’s curriculum. She added that she hoped the university would continue to encourage people to participate in this field.

Also in attendance were Principal of Qiongzhou University Wu Yaoting, Vice Principal Guo Jianchun, President of Sanya Women’s Federation Du Liyin, and President of Wuzhishan Women’s Federation and Deputy Director of the Publicity Department of Hainan Women’s Federation Cai Dongyan.
