The Hainan government is working to increase the number of air quality monitoring substations across the island. Apart from Sansha City, the local residents of remaining cities and regions will be able to view PM2.5 air quality data from Jan 1st, 2014.

According to the notice, major cities and counties, scenic spots, and industrial parks are required to be equipped with the air quality monitoring facility by October of 2014. In addition, these real-time air quality data will be available in public areas including media outlets, radio, airports, ports and highways.

As of November 2013, Sanya had established three monitoring stations and published the air quality data online. Other cities and regions like Haikou, Dongfang, Ledong, Wuzhishan, Lingshui, Qiongzhong and Changjiang have also installed the systems
