The 2014 WTTC Global Summit, which will be held in April 2014 in Hainan, can help Hainan to open up to the world and promote its development into an international tourist venue, according to Lu Zhiyuan, head of Hainan province’s tourism department, interviewed by a People’s Daily Online reporter on Oct. 25, 2014 in Beijing.

“The WTTC Global Summit is like a bridge across which Hainan’s tourist industry can establish greater exchange and cooperation with the global tourist industry. Hosting the WTTC 2014 Global Summit will help Hainan tourism to meet international standards and further promote its development as an international destination,” said Lu Zhiyuan.

“At the same time Hainan can showcase its wealth of ecological resources, its rich cultural environment, its advanced tourist facilities and its high level of services. This event will help to promote the popularity and influence of Hainan.” said Lu Zhiyuan.

“Approved by the State Council of China, the 2014 WTTC Global Summit will take place in April 2014 in Hainan with the theme of ‘Changing World, New Perspectives’”, announced David Scowsill, President & CEO of the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) at a press conference jointly hosted by WTTC, the China National Tourism Administration (CNTA) and the People’s Government of Hainan on Oct. 25 in Beijing.

An island located on the southernmost tip of China, Hainan is famous for its excellent natural environment, beautiful tropical island scenery, multitude of tourist services and great resort facilities, and is also well known as a great place for healthy living. At the end of 2009, the State Council upgraded the development of Hainan International Tourism Island to a national project.

WTTC is the forum for business leaders in the Travel & Tourist industry, with Chief Executives of some one hundred of the world’s leading Travel & Tourist companies as its members. WTTC organizes annual Global Summits in different cities around the world, and it is the world’s highest-level gathering of Travel & Tourist executives. Hosting the summit provides the hosting venues with a great opportunity to develop their tourist industry.
