The Hainan Women’s Federation and garment producer Heng Yuan Xiang Group launched the Heng’ai Action to call on volunteers to knit sweaters for needy children in south China’s Hainan Province on October 19, 2013.

In attendance at the ceremony was Vice President of Hainan Women’s Federation Li Youwu, representatives of Heng Yuan Xiang, government officials from relevant departments and over 200 people.

Li urged women’s federation at all levels to intensify their efforts in protecting children’s rights, caring for orphans and disabled children and promoting children’s charities.

Meanwhile, Li also called on more enterprises to fulfill their social responsibilities and help disadvantaged children.

Several volunteer mothers were knitting sweaters at the ceremony and the organizers distributed information leaflets to spread awareness of the project.

The Hainan Women’s Federation has arranged for 1,000 volunteers to knit 2,000 sweaters for needy children by December 20, 2013. The sweaters will be presented to the children before the traditional Spring Festival.

The Heng’ai Action is a charity project launched by the China Children and Teenagers Foundation and Heng Yuan Xiang Group in 2005 to care for orphans and disabled children.
