According to data released by Haikou Customs, sales at the two duty-free shops in Hainan province reached 88 million Yuan during 2013 National Day holiday, an increase of 12 percent compared to the Golden Week holiday of last year.

A total of 110,00 duty-free items were sold during the weeklong holiday, up 19 percent year-on-year.

Sales at the Sanya duty-free shop hit 71 million yuan, with the number of customers reaching 16,000. Meanwhile, sales at Haikou Meilan Airport Duty-free Shop hit 17 million Yuan, with the number of customers reaching 10,000.

The customs authority said customers at the two duty-free shops totaled 795,000 during the first 9 months, with a total sales volume of 2.34 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 46 percent.
