A green building code is set to be introduced in Hainan in 2014 as part of a major new sustainability scheme, according to the Hainan Provincial Department of Housing and Urban-Rural Construction.
The green building code move aims to build Hainan into one of China’s most green development sites.
The code will be applied first to upcoming buildings such as official institutions, schools, hospitals, museums, sports stadia and science centers invested in by the local government as well as other buildings with construction areas of more than 20,000 sqm like airports, railway stations, hotels, office buildings and shopping malls.
