The development and reform department of Hainan province said on September 25th that Hainan yachting industry has enjoyed rapid growth over the past two years.

Lin Huifu, the head of Hainan development and reform department said the number of yachts and cruises in Hainan increased by 96.5 percent in 2012.

Events including the Volvo Ocean Race and Hainan rendez-vous Hainan Rendez-Vous Lifestyle and Yacht Show contributed largely to the growth, Lin said.

To date, the province has constructed 5 marinas with 800 berths. Meanwhile, another three marinas are under construction.

After completion, the number of yacht berths in Hainan will reach 1800.
