Hainan cooperates with Starwood to build the province into a MICE destination
Hainan recently reached collaboration agreements with Starwood, one of the world’s largest hotel companies, to build the province into a MICE destination.
According to reports, Starwood will join hands with Hainan to promote the province’s unique tourism cultures, increase the province’s hotel room occupancy rate and build the province into an even more popular MICE destination.
Since its first hotel in the province, the Sheraton, was put in to operation in 2003, Starwood has opened 10 more.
According to statistics from Starwood, Hainan’s hotel market has enjoyed stable year-on-year growth of around 10% in recent years.
During a meeting between Starwood and Hainan Tourism Development Commission, Starwood expressed the hope that more investments could be made by local governments into transport infrastructure and more flights to Hainan added.
In response, Lu Zhiyuan, the director of Hainan Tourism Development Commission, said Hainan will introduce more preferential and subsidy policies for airlines to encourage more flight routes to the island, and accelerate the construction of a three-dimensional transport network.
Lu expressed his hope that both parties can collaborate to attract more large international conferences to the province.
