1st reactor vessel installed at Unit 1 of Changjiang nuclear plant in Hainan
China Nuclear Engineering and Construction (CNECC) has completed installation of reactor pressure vessel at Unit 1 of the Changjiang nuclear power plant in China.
CNECC received the vessel at the site on 5 August 2013, which was transported by ship from Shanghai.
It was manufactured by Shanghai Electric Nuclear Power Equipment under a contract signed in December 2008.
The vessel is measured about 10m long and weighs around 250 ton.
The project, situated near Hoi Mei Tong village on China's southern island province of Hainan, will consists four 650MWe CNP-600 pressurized water reactors.
The Changjiang plant is being developed under a joint venture between China National Nuclear (CNNC) and China Huaneng Group.
In July 2008, the Changjiang project was initially approved for construction by China's National Developmental and Reform Commission.
The Changjiang 1 nuclear plant is scheduled to be operational in 2014 and Unit 2 is set to start up in 2015.
