The city of Melaka and Haikou, China, will forge ties to conserve heritage buildings and the beauty of islands in order to spur more tourist arrivals to these historic cities.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam said Haikou, a port city in the Hainan province had many similarities with historic Melaka.

"Haikou is known as a eco-tourism destination with its pristine beaches and landscaped city which can be emulated by Melaka," he told reporters after witnessing the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Historic Melaka City Council and Haiko City, China, here today.

The MoU will facilitate cooperation between Melaka and Haikou in the fields of culture, economy and trade.

Mohd Ali said Dataran 1Malaysia, a tourism attraction in Klebang, near here, would see the construction of the biggest 1Malaysia Theme Park, a concept emulated from the Gold Coast, Australia.
"An Australian company, Village Show, has offered to build the park," Mohd Ali said, adding that negotiations were ongoing to undertake the project next year.
