The latest figures from Haikou Customs show the surprisingly strong export growth of Hainan, and Hainan’s export growth was 6th place in China in the first five months.

From January to May, the foreign trade volume in Hainan province was 39.02 billion yuan ($6.22 billion), an increase of 14% over the same period of last year excluding foreign exchange.

The export volume amounted to 10.91 billion yuan ($1.74 billion), an increase of 49.5%, and the import volume was 28.11 billion yuan ($4.48 billion), an increase of 4.3%.

Those emerging markets, including Africa, the Middle East and the ASEAN countries, have become Hainan’s major trading partners with over 1 billion of import and export value, with a particular focus on energy resources and high-tech products.
