With the 3-day Duanwu Festival holiday fast approaching, domestic airlines have started charging higher prices for air tickets for the most popular routes. Travelling to Hainan remains one of the most popular routes and scheduled flights are in short supply.

According to online booking information from major airlines, the cheapest price for flights from Beijing to Haikou during Duanwu Festival is around RMB 880, which amounts to 61% off the full ticket price.

According to the notice released by the State Council earlier, Spring Festival, Tomb-Sweeping Day, Labor Day and National Day were listed as national holidays during which passenger cars with seven seats or less as well as motorcycles will be able to a free pass through all toll roads, bridges and tunnels

The toll charge for cars travelling on the highway during Duanwu Festival is expected to cause more people to choose to fly to Hainan for the short-term holiday.

Scheduled flights will be concentrated to June 10th and 12th respectively. Flights to popular cities like Shenzhen and Qingdao will see some discounts due to customer demand.
