A PRIMARY school principal and a public official in Hainan Province have been detained on suspicion of molesting young girls after they spent the night with six students in hotel rooms, officials said yesterday.
The principal, surnamed Chen, of Wanning City No.2 Primary School and a clerk with the local housing management authority, surnamed Feng, were in police custody after a medical examination showed the girls, all grade-six students, sustained injuries to their private parts.
Chen was sacked over the scandal, the Wanning education bureau said.
The girls went missing last Wednesday. Anxious parents and teachers failed to discover their whereabouts until 11pm the next day, when one turned up at her relative's home in Hainan's capital Haikou and three others were later found in a rented house in Haikou.
The other two were found in a resort hotel in Wanning last Friday morning after authorities received information from the other four girls, according to local news portal, www.hinews.cn.
The girls appeared dopey and drowsy when they were found and had bruises on their necks and hands, the report said. The medical checkup suggested they were molested, added the report.
Surveillance cameras captured four girls entering two rooms at Green Spring Field Hotel in Wanning last Wednesday night. The footage also showed that Chen entered one room initially and left from the other the next morning.
Meanwhile, Feng stayed with the other two girls for a night at Dazhou Island Resort Villa, according to the report.
