According to a report presented at the Hainan Marine and Fisheries Conference held on April 23rd, Hainan’s marine economic development has made great progress over the past five years.

In 2012, the gross ocean product reached 72.45 billion yuan, accounting for one fourth of the whole island’s GDP. The added value of the marine and fishing industry hit 51.1 and 21.6 billion yuan, representing an increase of 120% and 102% respectively compared to 2007.

In 2012, the total export volume of aquatic products reached 13,800 tons, valued at 530 million US dollars. In 2011 and 2012, Hainan ranked 1st among domestic cities in exporting aquatic products to Europe
