The government of Hainan announced on 6th April at the Boao Forum for Asia annual conference 2013 that a special plan for the Boao Lecheng International Medical Tourism Pilot Zone has been finalized.

The areas included in the plans include the Lecheng area and Xiaoledao Islet area, covering a total area of 20.14 square kilometers.

According to the plan, the special zone project will consist of a healthcare tourism area and medical treatment area, with the aim of building Boao Lecheng into a world-class medical travel destination and healthcare hub.

The healthcare tourism area will feature a traditional medical center, sub-health and senior rehabilitation center and plastic surgery center, and medical treatment areas will be equipped with world-class medical facilities and technologies.

The planning zone is positioned to become the country’s first international advanced medical travel industry cluster which combines medical tourism, low-carbon and ecological tourism, leisure and health care.

Investment on the medical tourism zone will reach up to a trillion yuan and overseas medical institutions will be allowed to set up businesses within the zone and enjoy preferential business policies to boost medical tourism.
