Wanning is to hold the 2014 world freestyle kickboxing championship from August 12 to 18 following a cooperation agreement signed between Wanning municipal government and WKU on April 2, 2013.

The World Kickboxing and Karate Union (KWU) was previously known as the World Kickboxing Association (WKA). The organization was established in 1978 in Germany and is the largest amateur and professional sanctioning organization of kickboxing in the world.

According to the agreement, a series of related lectures and professional tournament events will be organized to build the character of the sport city and appeal to people to expand its influence to make the championship a grand success.

Jiang Qianqian, the president of WKU in the China Region said the unique location, agreeable traffic situation and comfortable weather have come together to make it the first city to host the kickboxing event in Asia.
