Hainan plans to set up a green GDP evaluation system to strengthen ecological environment protection and construction in 2013.

According to the document, Hainan will focus on improving its rural environment, and plans to launch 6 rural environmental management pilot projects and 100 domestic waste collection and treatment projects, and build 18 scenery towns and 934 civilization eco-villages.

In order to intensify protection of water resources, Hainan is to designate 195 sanitary sources of drinking water in 2013, and undertake 230 drinking water safety projects in rural areas.

Meanwhile, relevant departments in Hainan will also take effective measures to strengthen the protection and management of tropical rain forests, mangrove forests, coral reefs and seaweed meadows.

Besides, Hainan will strengthen environmental comprehensive renovation and tailings comprehensive utilization in the over-mined areas of Cangjiang, Wencang and Wanning.
