China number portability trials in Tianjin & Hainan see low uptake
Use of number portability in the trials in Tianjin and Hainan has slowed to 1 percent.
A report from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology's (MIIT) said that fewer than 1 percent of the more than 18 million mobile subscribers in the two regions have applied for mobile number portability in the second half of last year.
Furthermore, only 36.7 percent of those who did apply for mobile number portability ended up switching providers, the Marbridge Daily writes citing a Sohu IT report.
Mobile users who had not switched operators said they did not do so as it was too complicated with high costs. Another complaint was that value-added services do not automatically transfer across with their number.
