Hainan to release PM2.5 air-quality monitoring data in 5 more cities
The Hainan government plans to release readings of the PM2.5 pollution particles in 5 additional cities including Sanya, Sansha, Qionghai, Danzhou and Wuzhishan by the end of 2013.
According to the President of the Hainan Research Academy of Environmental Sciences Yue Ping, Haikou, the provincial capital of Hainan, started to release PM2.5 data on Jan.1.
Under the central government's plan, the PM2.5 air-quality data in all provincial capital cities' was supposed to be made available by the end of 2012, and monitoring programs of 113 key environmental protection cities be established by the end of 2013, with the aim that they cover all prefecture-level cities by 2016. Hainan is proceeding with its urban air quality monitoring program in stages.
The Air Quality Monitoring Station of Sansha is presently under construction, invested in by the state. Besides, the establishment of monitoring stations in Sanya will be funded by the central government and the other three cities are expected to be supported by the Ministry of Environmental Protection.
