The approaching Dragon Boat Festival has seen Zongzi (a glutinous rice dumpling) in Haikou enter its peak sales period. It was found that local Zongzi are popular in Jiapin supermarket and Zongzi from other provinces also enjoyed good sales in Carrefour.

Jiapin supermarket even set up a Zongzi Shoppe that offers a wide variety of Zongzi. “The boxed Zongzi are more easily sold than those unboxed, because the boxed ones are often bought as a gift for other people” said one staff member in the supermarket.

In Carrefour, different kinds of Zongzi were put at the entrance of the supermarket, which attracted a lot of attention. “This week is the peak sales period for Zongzi. The Zongzi put on the shelves in the morning have sold out and we have just put some more on the shelves.“ said a staff member in Carrefour.
