Hainan Island takes leading role in marine tourism of China
According to the launch ceremony of the China Year of Marine Tourism 2013, the marine tourism industry ranked the first in the marine economy of China. Meanwhile, Hainan Island is leading the development of the marine tourism industry of China.
Hainan Island has a unique advantage in its marine tourism with a total maritime area of 2 million square kilometers, a total coastline of more than 1,800 km, about 70 great gulfs, and more than 50 larger islands and rich marine tourist resources.
A large number of domestic and international brand coastal tourist resorts have been built in Hainan and various marine tourism products including surfing, diving, hot-spring spas, golfing and yachting have been widely developed on the island.
In 2011, the added value generated by Hainan marine tourism reached 10.63 billion yuan, accounting for 61.17% of the Hainan tourism industry.
In addition, Hainan started developing high-end marine tourism products and has built five yacht marinas to international standards providing over 1500 berths. At present, 20 yacht clubs and more than 200 yacht enterprises have been set up, making it a region of great importance to the yacht industry.
