New satellite launch center in Hainan expected to be put into use in 2014
China’s 4th satellite launch center, Wenchang Satellite Launch Center in Hainan, will be used to send the Changzhen-5 rocket carrier into space in 2014.
Compared with other three satellite launch centers in Jiuquan, Taiyuan and Xichang Wenchang Satellite Launch Center has other advanced technologies for the space launch missions, such as GEO satellites, polar orbiting satellites, large space stations and deep space exploration satellites, said the Fan Yimin, the Communist Party Secretary and the Director of the project’s Construction Headquarters.
Hainan has been chosen as the country’ 4th launch location due to its low altitude close to the equator which affords energy saving opportunities. Besides, as the new launch centre faces the sea in south and east directions, there is no danger of debris of the used launch vehicles falling into residential areas.
