The first hospital in Sansha City is set to open this June after its main building was completed, officials announced recently.

The authority said the new hospital, which received investment of 18 million yuan, will provide complete health care to the island’s residents, which was lacking previously.

Sansha City, which administers more than 200 islets, received approval from the central government last July to become China's youngest prefecture- level city.

The number of tourist arrivals to Sansha is expected to increase after Sansha tours officially open to the public.

It is another significant step that will see residents’ living conditions will greatly improve as health care facilities develop on the island.

The hospital will offer emergency, obstetrics, surgical and gynecologic services.
