Hainan to build more sea ranches over next 8 years
A plan on the construction of sea ranches in Hainan laid out by the provincial fisheries research institute has been approved by experts to realize the sustainable development of fishery industry over the next eight years.
Under the plan, 1 million cubic meters of artificial reefs will be installed in suitable sea areas over the next eight years to protect the marine resources and leisure fishing industry.
Coastal cities like Lingshui, Sanya, Haikou, Wenchang, Qionghai, Wanning, Ledong and Lingao have been chosen as the sea ranching model areas.
Japan initiated the technology for sea ranching in 1970s, which aims to increase fishery resources and enhance the environment by rearing fish and shellfish under artificially controlled conditions.
