A new commercial airport will be constructed in Danzhou City in the near future, and Meihualing district was preliminarily chosen as the site for the airport’s construction, according to local authorities.

After conducting administration research, analyzing air traffic, geographic conditions and ground transport layouts, 6 areas including Meihualing district, Zhaoyang district, Chunjiang district and Chaoguan district were chosen as candidate sites.

Meihualing’s strategic location near Dada Center, Binhai New District and Yangpu Area was among the many factors that led to it being chosen as the most suitable site of the project over the other proposed sites.

According to Zhang Qi, the Secretary of the Municipal Committee of Danzhou, the new airport will be designed to be international-class and multi-functional, and based in the western part of Hainan, to accommodate the growing number of tourists.
