The plan for Wanning Dazhou Island Natural Reserve development and protection (between 2011-2020) has recently been approved by a group of experts from State Ocean Bureau.

The plan will focus on strengthening the protection of swiftlets species and sea ecosystems and gradually improving the average coverage of coral reefs by 2020.

Covering a total area of 70 square kilometers, Dazhou Island was approved as a national level natural reserve in 1990.

The plan also intends to set up a digital management system for the collection of the island’s information and strengthen efforts to construct infrastructure for the island’s sustainable development.
