Hainan to develop inland waterways to promote tourism
According to the plan for the development of Hainan inland waterways approved in last March, Hainan will spend 10 to 20 years completing the construction of a tourism-oriented inland waterway passenger transport system.
The inland waterway system will focus on Nandu River, Wenchang River, Wanquan River and Sanya River. Its annual passenger volume is expected to be over 10 million by 2020.
As the first project of this plan, Wanquan River Channel of Hainan inland waterways will complete its land use program this October and is expected to start construction in 2013.
Local authorities said the inland waterways system will allow the tourists to enjoy the scenery along the rivers and help promote the economic development of these areas.
