A marine environment monitoring and forecasting station was established in Sansha, in China's southern-most province of Hainan, the State Oceanic Administration said on Wednesday.

The station will be operated by 25 crews, who will manage the construction of other marine monitoring stations in Yongxing, Nansha and other islands in the country's newest city.

The station will also conduct marine environment surveys and monitoring projects.

Marine forecasts, including wind strength and wave direction information, will be released timely to guarantee the safety of offshore law enforcement, shipping and fisheries in Sansha.

The city of Sansha was established on July 24.
