The government of Sansha recently issued new regulations to better protect the ecological environment within the region.

Under the new regulations, all construction or infrastructure projects will be required to go through a strict environmental evaluation.

The regulations also mean that construction of the sewage processing and pipeline project on Yongxing Island will have to be sped up in order to preserve the surrounding environment.

The government will not approve any new groundwater exploration projects, starting from this November, and they hope to eliminate all similar projects by 2015.

Besides this, the city’s government is also currently working on setting up a special coral reef preservation zone to protect the various eco-systems and varied marine life at Zhaoshu Island.
