1st phase of Artificial Island at Haikou Bay to be completed by the end of 2012
According to information from governmental departments of Haikou city, the first phase of construction of the Nanhai Pearl Artificial Island at Haikou Bay is expected to be completed by the end of this year. The project has seen an investment of over 1.2 billion yuan, and covers a reclaimed land area of 750 mu.
The Nanhai Pearl Artificial Island is located to the northwest of the west coastline of the city. The total area will cover 260 hectares when completed, including a sea filling area [?] of 49.3 hectares.
The project began in October of 2009, and the man-made island has since been listed as one of the key provincial projects. The construction of the island has taken two years in total.
When completed the eco-island will feature a super five-star landmark hotel, an international conference center, shopping malls, a luxury yacht club and a small number of low-rise residential villas.
