Construction of Qiongzhou Strait cross-sea passage may start after 2015
The well-known project concerning the Qiongzhou Strait cross-sea passage has been listed in the 12th Five-Year Plan and the Hainan government is striving for its completion during the 13th Five-Year Plan period (2015-2020).
Transportation has become one of the important factors that directly affects the economic development of Hainan Island. Over the past few years, the government has made many achievements in upgrading and creating new infrastructure, such as launching fast express trains travelling directly to major mainland cities like Guangzhou, Changsha and Chengdu.
Li Guoliang said the primary research for the construction work for under-sea passages underneath the Qiongzhou Strait is underway and relevant departments are striving to finish geological exploration work during the 12th Five-Year Plan period.
