With the SWATCH GIRLS PRO CHINA 2012 hosted by Wanning getting under-way in less than a week, the world’s leading female longboard riders are readying themselves to contest the ASP Women’s Longboard World Title on the beautiful island of Hainan, China.

The balmy waters of host city Wanning’s Riyuewan Bay feature long left-hand pointbreaks, the ideal blank canvas for the girls to display their wave-riding artistry. The unique location, sense of adventure and discovery all make for the classic surf trip. With the South China Sea’s seasonal northeast monsoon now well established, the surf along the Wanning coastline has been consistently in the 2-4 ft range (waist to head high), with long-range forecasts indicating swells of a similar size for the event waiting period.

One of the hot favourites for the title, Swatch Proteam rider Kassia Meador, 30 (USA) finished in the semi-finals last year, and is relishing her return to China. The thing about this event is, sure it’s an awesome contest, there’s a World Title on the line which is super important, but at the same time, it’s a surf trip. It’s about travel, discovery, exploring. None of us had ever been to China before last year’s event, and the thrill of checking out a brand new location, finding new, empty waves, sharing surfing with a new audience, those kind of things are super rewarding. I have to admit I didn’t know much about China, I thought it was cold, kind of built up. To experience Wanning with its tropical climate, the mountains, beautiful beaches and fun, empty surf is so rad. I can’t wait for another adventure to start.
