Yesterday at Airshow China 2012, Hainan Airlines announced that it selected GE Aviation GEnx-1B engines to power two additional Boeing 787s. This brings Hainan Airlines’ GEnx-powered Boeing 787 Dreamliner fleet to 10 aircraft.
Hainan Airlines also expanded its long-term service agreement to include the additional GEnx engines. As part of the agreement, Hainan’s GEnx engine fleet will be maintained in the latest configuration.
 
"Hainan Airlines’ order for additional GEnx engines demonstrates the airline’s confidence in the engine’s performance,” said GEnx program general manager Chuck Nugent. “The GEnx engine will provide Hainan Airlines with improved fuel efficiency, reduced emissions and lower noise to further the carrier’s environmental efforts.”
 
The GEnx-1B engine is the top-selling engine on the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, according to GE. The engine has accumulated more than 18,000 flight hours and more than 3,400 cycles since entering service in April. More than 800 GEnx-1B engines have been sold to nearly 30 customers.
