With the aim of spreading knowledge of marine life and exploring the ocean culture of Hainan, a selection for the Hainan ocean museum design project was recently launched by the local government to build a new base for ocean science education with tropical characteristics.

The selected site for the project will be preliminarily located in Sanya. To date, the provincial government has received 8 planning schemes. A further evaluation on the feasibility of the schemes is in process.

The Local government has said that the goal of constructing the Hainan Ocean Museum is based on a national strategy to raise the awareness of ocean culture to the public, and improve its oceanic competitiveness.

According to the planning scheme, the ocean museum will consist of three parts. These will be the ocean exhibition area, the ocean experience area and the marine creature diversity area.
