HNA Group honored at 2012 South-South Awards for ‘Brightness Action’
The ceremony began with a press conference with Mr. Feng Chen and Governor David Paterson on the red carpet before hundreds of media outlets. Mr. Chen accepted the award on behalf of the HNA Group, a company funding and delivering treatment to more than 50,000 patients with cataracts in China, Cambodia, Inner Mongolia, Zimbabwe, Malawi and Mozambique.
The event kicked-off with a Press Conference followed by a Presidential Cocktail reception where Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon gave remarks before The Honourable Dr. W. Baldwin Spencer, Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda; H.E Ambassador Francis Lorenzo, President of South-South News; and Dr. Hamadoun I. Toure, ITU Secretary-General, organizers of the 2012 South-South Awards, greeted VIP guests including honorees: Dr. NC Dlamini Zuma, African Union Chairperson; H.E. Olusegun Obasanjo, Former President of Nigeria, Prime Minister of Lesotho, H.E. Michael Chilufya Sata, President of Zambia, five-time Grammy Award-Winning artist Gilberto Santa Rosa and baseball legend Sammy Sosa among many other high profile guests.
Mr. Feng Chen, Chairman of HNA Group, highlighted the importance of Corporate Social Responsibility at the ceremony. "While pursuing development, we have always been working on giving back to society and take on social responsibilities. To date, the group has made 115 million USD worth charity donations to programmes like HNA Brightness Action, Wings of HNA-Caring for Children Summer Camp, Hainan New Year Art Festival and HNA Hainan Island Scholarship," said Mr. Chen.
The HNA Group has been widely recognized for its philanthropic initiatives and since 1993 the company has developed into a conglomerate with 47 billion USD total asset and 16 billion USD annual income covering aviation, tourism, logistics and financial services etc. Not only operating companies around the globe, HNA also runs 500 domestic and international flight routes with 130 destination cities. In 2013, Hainan Airlines, a subsidiary of HNA Group will be the first Chinese carrier to fly Beijing-Chicago using the Dreamliner Boeing 787 aircraft. This is the third HNA flight route at North America apart from the existing destinations of Seattle and Toronto.
