Hainan expected to become a world-class tourist destination by 2021

A recent report issued by World Travel & Tourism Council in London showed that Hainan is expected to become one of the world-class tourist destinations by 2012.
According to the report, entitled ‘Hainan: Travel & Tourism Development Potential 2011–2021’, in the next decade, the International tourism expenditure in Hainan is expected to grow by near 13% every year. By 2021, travel and tourism contributed 35% of the province’s GDP.
The report also revealed that nearly 550,000 jobs will be created directly by travel and tourism in the province over the coming decade.
Speaking of the Hainan tourism, David Scowsill, the WTTC President and CEO said, Hainan is one of the famous islands in China with abundant natural and historical resources, which makes it have the potential to become a world-class international tourism destination by 2021.
The WTTC also attributed the rapid development of Hainan tourism industry to the government’s well-organized plans as well as its ability to attract large investments. Great measures like the airport expansion, flights increase and infrastructure improvements have been taken over the past three years to develop Hainan as a world-class destination.
