Hainan is endeavoring to establish a pilot zone as part of the scientific path for the development of the International Tourism Island. The general plan has been submitted to the experts for approval.

The Hainan International Tourism Island Pilot Zone is divided into three primary functional categories of experimental industrial policy, tourism, culture and entertainment industry as well as fundamental and functional industry

Construction work on key projects within the pilot zone are gradually in progress including the the Wenli Avenue, Ocean Theme Park and Li’an Scenery Town.

As the largest settlement area in the pilot zone, the Lian Scenery Town is expected to start construction in late October, which can shelter 16.500 people.

Among the ongoing projects, the ocean theme park, with a total investment of 6.5 billion yuan, has grabbed the most attention. According to the plan, the park will begin its trial operation by the end of 2014.

This year, the pilot zone will require a total investment of up to 6 billion yuan. Up to this point, the pilot zone has received investment of 1.252 billion yuan.
