Hainan received 87,000 Taiwan tourist arrivals over the past 7 months, up 97.73% from the earlier year, according to Hainan tourism authority.
 
The statistics report also showed that Hainan saw slow growth in the overseas tourist arrivals in January to July, especially tourists from Hong Kong and Maocau.
 
In a bid to meet increasing demand, number of airlines companies like China Airlines, TransAsia Airways Corp, EVA Air Corp, Far Eastern Air Transport and have opened and increased direct flights to Hainan. Currently, there are 34 flights operated per week between Hainan and Taipei.
 
Meanwhile, a variety of cultural exchange activities have been held in Hainan to help boost mutual tourism industry.
 
With the launch of direct flights, local travel agents said they will take advantage of it to launch a variety of tourism products and services targeted at Taiwan tourists in the future.
