This September, Hainan is going to hold tourism culture weeks in Russia to promote tourism in Russian market.

A series of events will be organized to explore further cooperation between Hainan and Russia including the Hainan tourism photography exhibition and ethnic cultural performances.

The latest statistics show that the there are chartered flights operated from Hainan to 13 Russian cities. In 2011, the number of Russian tourists visiting Hainan surpassed 200,000, making Russia the biggest tourist-flow generating market for Hainan.

In the first quarter of 2012, the total number of Russian tourist arrivals reached 50,000, a slightly decrease of 1.8% year on year. It is the first decline occurred since 2009. Many experts analyzed the cheaper quotation of direct flights from Russia to other similar destinations such as Thailand and Vietnam made tourism market in Hainan less attractive.

According to Chen Tiejun, the Vice Director of Hainan Tourism Development Commission, more efforts should put on improving the competitiveness of tourism products in terms of prices and diversity which will gain a better understanding of the expectations of Russian travelers and ensure that the sector can continue to grow.
